Making a real difference in the lives of rural communities
Livelihoods projects aim to build sustainable livelihoods to reduce poverty and promote local economic status of Somali citizens particularly those who live in the rural areas where there is a low socio-economic situation caused by recurrent droughts. This project offers goats and sheep for the poor rural families and helps them to regain their way of living. It also helps the families who migrated to urban areas by giving them funds to set up small businesses and assist them in integrating with the people in towns. Many beneficiaries of this project became successful in managing their livelihoods.
Child Sponsorship Program is designed to provide orphans and children from deprived backgrounds with education, healthcare and clothing so that they become successful and self-sufficient adults. Orphans and children from low-income families benefit from this project. It mainly assists these children in having access to education and healthcare. Over 400 children are the real and direct beneficiaries of the project. The program pays their monthly school fees and at the end of the academic year it gives them money to buy clothes and their other needs.
GWDA organization built and equipped a large hospital in Salahley district, which serves the local community in the district of Somaliland and eastern Ethiopia. This hospital provides all the essential health services needed by the community in the Salahley district and eastern Ethiopia.
Mostly being seasonal, this project provides food items and fresh meat for the economically marginalized households and school children in rural villages in Somaliland. Half of the people benefitting from this project are always women and school children who live in urban areas. This project is mainly funded by GWDA COMMUNITY. The targeted groups of this project are the poor and vulnerable households and the children at IDP's who felt the hardship of the dry season and who should recover from the impacts of drought and covid19. It is always life-saving humanitarian assistance at the right time.
The main purpose of the project is to achieve a healthy community free from mental illness. This project aims to serve the entire community in the Horn of Africa, especially in the Somaliland community. The GWDA organization has built this hospital and equipped it to deal with our mental illnesses in the community who are neglected, wandering round and dwelling in streets and unhealthy places that are not fit for caring for someone with mental illness. During the hospital's existence, mental health services have been provided to about 2000 people from neighboring countries such as Eastern Ethiopia, Somalia, and Djibouti. Most of them have now recovered from their mental illness and happily reunited with their families.
