Health & Mental Health Services and Projects

Overview

Health and mental wellbeing are core pillars of the Garoodi Women Development Association (GWDA). The organization is deeply committed to improving access to quality health and mental health services for rural, vulnerable, and underserved communities across Somaliland and the wider Horn of Africa. Many individuals—especially those living with mental illness—face geographic, financial, and social barriers that prevent them from receiving proper care, often resulting in neglect, homelessness, and stigma.

GWDA addresses these challenges by building and managing health facilities, strengthening rural health services, improving nutrition, and delivering specialized mental health care. Through inclusive, compassionate, and community-centered approaches, GWDA works to restore health, dignity, and social reintegration.

Mental Health Hospital – Building and Management (Ongoing Project)

One of GWDA’s flagship initiatives is the construction and management of a dedicated Mental Health Hospital, designed to care for individuals with severe mental illnesses who are often neglected, homeless, or living in unsafe conditions.

Programme Purpose

The purpose of the Health & Mental Health Services programme is to reduce preventable illness, improve physical and mental wellbeing, and ensure equitable access to essential healthcare services—particularly for individuals and communities most at risk of exclusion.

Health & Mental Health Services and Projects
